This story is about Jacob’s ladder.
Jacob was traveling through the wilderness fleeing from his brother Esau with his uncle Laban.
One night, Jacob had a remarkable dream that would change his life forever.
In his dream, Jacob saw a ladder reaching from the earth to heaven with angels going up and down on it. At the top of the ladder, stood the Lord who spoke to Jacob with a powerful voice.
The Lord said, “I am the Lord, the God of tour father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying” and promised Jacob that his descendants would spread out to the west, east, north and south.
Jacob awoke with awe and fear realizing that he had encountered the presence of God.
Jacob took the stone he had used for a pillow and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.
He named the place Bethel saying surely the Lord is in this place.
